Waiting for September

It has been a while since I updated the blog. Forgive me, I’ve been working away like a maniac on The Novel. Re-writing, editing, tweaking not to mention planning out books two and three, and a dissertation for the next academic year.

Writing Desk
Early morning writing.

For so long now my writing desk has been organised chaos – notes, research books and The Mighty Pin Board of Happenings. Most folk just call it the plot board, not for me.

My writing space evolved around the board and naturally became the creative area I wanted. Random pieces of inspiration appeared after research visits, birthdays and workshops.  This of course was after spending many hours procrastinating and wasting money on stuff that I didn’t need around me. Don’t tell me you haven’t done that too, I won’t believe you!

As ‘the end’ happened, and I slowly worked through the edits the notes were removed and with each removed pin the character voices grew more silent, and the novel stronger.

The Mighty Pin Board of Happenings
The original concept is under here somewhere.

I know some of you swear by Scrivener, some of you live with a spreadsheet, but for me this is my process. Sure I have a Pinterest account, but you can’t stick a piece of salvaged iron to that can you?

My characters are quiet for the time being, other creative ideas are having a turn, and shock horror, books are being read in copious amounts once more.

That’s not to say I’m done with this story world. This is just the start, ahead of me and the book is the whole query submission process. Time to start a new collection of battle scars known as rejection letters.

For now though, the Mighty Pin Board of Happenings is  a large white canvas waiting for September.  It’s kind of exciting really.

  1. I have a blank(isn) whiteboard too. That’s mostly because the magnets gave up under the weight and everything has slid down into a heap. Doesn’t matter, I could never understand my notes anyway.

    1. Ah, see no magnets here. One to many Post-it notes landed in the tea! Misused dressmaking pins a plenty though!

    1. It helped un-clutter my thoughts and made the editing process a whole lot easier too.
